So, you have a speech coming up in your public speaking class. If you're like most students, you're dreading it, but it's a required class and you can use the "A". You're speech instructor suggests that you practice at least ten times...in front of an audience...and listen to their feedback. It's good advice, but you have a problem: you can't get the good, solid feedback you need to make your speech better. Your friends are busy and disinterested; your boyfriend is no help at all. You need to practice your speech in front of someone who knows something about public speaking so you can get that "A".

My name is Kevin Shaughnessy and I'm a former speech instructor at North Idaho College. I set up this web site because one of the biggest complaints I had from my students was that they didn't feel like their practice time was very effective. They weren't getting the feedback they needed. With GradeMySpeech.com, you have the opportunity to have your speech graded and get sound advice from someone who's graded over 1000 speeches...before you have to deliver it "for real". It's easy to do, and it only costs $25 USD.

Here's How It Works...

1. Create a video of you delivering your speech. I recommend you do this in front of an audience, perhaps family or friends. The dynamics of delivering a speech in front of an audience are much different than delivering it by yourself to a video camera, so rehearsing in front of an audience is a good idea.
2. Upload the video. You can upload your video to any of the video sharing web sites such as YouTube or Google Video. I recommend Google Video because they accept many different file formats and you can make the video private. Neither YouTube or Google Video has size limitations, so that shouldn't be an issue. If the video file is under 20MB in size, you can email (GradeMySpeech@gmail.com) it to me as an attachment. You can also Skype it to me (Skype ID: Kevin-Shaughnessy). However you want to do it is up to you. As long as I can access it, it really doesn't matter.
3. Make your payment. Click on the "Buy Now" button at the bottom of this page. Be sure to select the type of speech you are delivering (Informative, Informative with Visual Aids, or Persuasive) so I know which grade sheet I should use. The cost is a measly $25 USD via PayPal, and I will begin grading your speech after I receive your payment.
4. Receive Your Evaluation. You can expect to receive your grade sheet via email within 48 hours after I receive payment. If you need if quicker than that, let me know and I may be able to accommodate. I will send you the grade sheet as a PDF attachment.

A Few More Things You Should Know

• Please make sure your speech is under 12 minutes. I've never heard of a teacher assigning a speech longer than 10 minutes, there simply isn't enough class time to accommodate it. If it's over 12 minutes, it's probably too long.
• Don't forget to record your speech in front of an audience. As I mentioned earlier, the speech just isn't the same when you deliver it alone in front of a video camera.
